Hello Parent/Guardian of a Team 2225 member!
What are the benefits of joining the Robotics Team?
Students gain valuable real-world experience in a wide variety of areas including engineering, teamwork, leadership, communication, and problem-solving. Additional benefits include:
- Access to over $80 million in scholarships through FIRST (link available online)
- Strengthens college, internship, and career applications
- Opportunities to apply for internships through FIRST corporate sponsors
- Proven positive impact on confidence, STEM interest, and future careers (Learn more at: www.firstinspires.org/about/impact)
Is there a cost to participate?
There is no activity fee to join the team.
However, we ask families to cover the cost of:
- Team T-shirt
- Snacks during build season
- Food at competitions
To simplify things, we collect these together as a $75 fee, paid to the Team 2225 Booster Club.
How will I stay informed?
We want parents to feel included and informed throughout the season:
- Remind is used for student communication, and many parents choose to join as well so they receive the same updates.
- The team website will be updated with a calendar and season information.
- You can always reach out directly via e-mail at jake@torgerson.cc (Jake Torgerson, Head Coach)
Is there a form or registration required?
Yes. FIRST requires online registration for all students, which includes parent permission and consent forms. You will receive an email with a link to complete your student’s registration.
Are parents required to volunteer?
There are no mandatory volunteer hours for parents.
Minimum parent expectations:
- Pick up your student on time (practices typically end at 5:30 PM during Build Season)
- Attend at least one competition — ideally Saturday, April 1st — to cheer on the team!
Optional ways to be involved:
- Visit the team during practice to see what students are working on
- Learn about FIRST and how the competition works
- Volunteer your time or expertise if you’d like (see below)
We truly welcome any level of involvement—no experience required!
How can I support the team?
Parent support makes a huge difference! You can help by:
- Driving/Transportation for events
- Helping the team secure sponsors or connecting us with your workplace or businesses
- Donating snacks for students during long build days
- Mentoring if you have skills or interests in:
- Finance, fundraising, or sponsor relations
- Outreach and event planning
- Team organization and communications
- Electrical or mechanical build support
(Again—no pressure! Support is appreciated, not required.)
When does the team meet/practice?
Pre-Season (Fall)
- Meets every Thursday from the start of school until Winter Break
- Focus on learning skills, team bonding, and preparing for Build Season
Build Season (January & February)
- Begins with Kickoff (a full-day Saturday event) when the new game is revealed
- Practices every day after school from approximately 2:30–5:30 PM throughout January & February
- If school is in session, we practice. There is typically at least one Saturday build day as well.
Post-Build / Competition Prep
- Fine-tuning the robot, drive practice, and preparing for competition
When and where are the competitions?
Robotics Regional Competitions are 3-day events:
Day 1: Thursday – Not a spectator day; teams set up, work on robots, and complete inspections
Day 2: Friday – Qualification matches begin; great day to watch
Day 3: Saturday – The most exciting! Final qualification matches in the morning, elimination rounds in the afternoon
Complete Event Details will be available here
You can view an example of a Spectator guide that I created for last year’s game at this Link.
